2009 Commemorates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Hudson
River by the Englishman Hendrick Hudson. Sailing under contract to the
Dutch East India Trading Company, the Half Moon and its crew of 20 entered
the mouth of the river in the Fall of 1609 in search of a northeast trade
passage to the Orient. Hudson sailed upriver as far as present-day Albany,
a journey which led, with time to the founding of New York as we know
it today.
The James Douglas Gallery is the publisher of the official 2009 Hudson Quadricentennial poster for the New Netherland Museum’s replica ship Half Moon (shown at right), destined to become this year’s most cherished Quad souvenir. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of any products containing this image goes directly to support this non-profit floating museum and its mission of education through adventure. Products include posters, postcards, and framed images. A limited quantity of signed and numbered giclée prints of the poster are also available in two sizes, autographed by Half Moon Captain Chip Reynolds and artist Mike Jaroszko.
